Veteran rockers DEF LEPPARD are baffled by their current chart success with new album SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE - because their previous two LPs failed to impress fans.
The disc, the British heavy metal band's tenth studio album, has entered the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at number five this week (07May08).
But guitarist Phil Collen is upset fans are overlooking the group's 10th album, entitled X, which was released in July 2002 and became the band's least successful release.
In 2006, they released an album of cover songs titled Yeah!, which also failed to make an impression on listeners.
Collen says, "I am pleased but mildly irritated by the fact that we haven't done anything different (to the most recent album) but simplified it.
"I am irked that people didn't pay this much attention to the other albums which I felt were just as good. This one is stripped down and people seem to be going nuts for it."
